Limbaugh's Burrowing Lesbians

by Ed Sawicki - August 27, 2016

Today, Rush Limbaugh said, “I never before in my life knew that lesbians wanted to be farmers. I never knew that lesbians wanted to get behind the horse and the plow and start burrowing.”

Ignoring his homophobia, he thinks that modern farming involves horses and plows. And these are not just any horses—they're burrowing horses—for those crops that don't take to sunshine. Above is a photo of one of the horses coming up from a hard day of burrowing.

Like Trump, Limbaugh is confused about words. Burrowing refers to an animal that makes holes or tunnels, typically for use as a dwelling. FURROWING refers to making ruts or grooves in the soil using a tractor or—in Limbaugh's mind—a horse-drawn plow.

The NBC News story (link below) points out:

“ Limbaugh is also relying on the stereotype of rural America as homophobic and backwards.”

2020 update

It's hard‑hitting news reporting like this story about lesbian farmers that earned Limbaugh the Medal of Freedom award by the also-lexically-challenged Donald Trump.
